PPA postgraduate won the HKPSA Best Dissertation Award

A Recent graduate of the Department's Ph.D. programme was awarded the Best Dissertation Award for 2003-2004 at the Hong Kong Political Science Association's Annual General Meeting on 7 May 2005.

Honoured was Dr. Christopher L. Skene, whose dissertation, "Democracy in the Era of Globalization: Explaining Authoritarian Practices in Asia and Latin America," was supervised by Dr. Richard Hu. The dissertation was deemed to be the best in the category among all those produced in Hong Kong by the territory's tertiary institutions.

On 20 MAY 2006, Dr Maria Del Mar FRANCESCH-HUIDOBRO, was honoured the 2004-2005 Best Dissertation Award (PhD category) by the Hong Kong Political Science Association. Her thesis tiltled: "A 'Disciplined Governance' Approach to Government-NGOs Relations: The Structures and Dynamics of Environmental Politics and Management in Singapore" was supervised by Professor Ian S. Thynne.

Dr. Lam Wai-man, winner of the Best Ph.D. Dissertation award for her dissertation entitled "Rediscovering Politics in Hong Kong (1949-1979): The Paradox of Political Indifference," Dr Lam's Supervisor was Prof. Joseph C. W. Chan.

Amatya Pradyunma, winner of the Best M.Phil. Dissertation award for his dissertation entitled, "Institutional Change and Intervention Outcome: Comparing Assistance Schemes for Farmer Managed Irrigation Systems in Nepal," Mr Pradyunma was supervised by Dr Danny W. L. Lam.
